Energy Efficiency Testing?
I was once told that the power been generated by these alternative sources needs to be tested for efficiency, phase etc. Is this the case if you are only using it in your own home?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If your generation is not connected to the mains electricity of your home all you need is to connect whatever appliances you want to a suitable inverter and it won't need to be tested further.
If you are grid connected a grid connect compatible inverter will turn your generation into 230v AC and synchronise it to the incoming mains elctricity. As long as the inverter meets the current standards it won't have to be tested onsite, but you will have to have permission from your Distribution Network Operator to connect to the grid mains.
See http://www.greenenergy.org.uk/pvuk2/reference/grid_con/index.htm for more details.
