Is Micro-gen about to take off?

The BBC ran an article on Micro generation on Thursday. Mainly about Eclectic's D400 'StealthGen'

The alternative energy site recieved over 7000 hits from its average of 2000! There is obvious interest in this area.

Is 2006 about to see these technologies become more mainstream?

Wholesale gas prices rise 4 fold... If these price increases find their way onto consumers bills we could be seeing a huge increase in the installation of renewables at home.

Well I'm seriously balking at the £3000 I've just been quoted to install a new gas boiler. I'd much rather put that towards something more sustainable than commit myself to an unreliable supply of fossil fuel for the next 10 years. I'm currently looking at biomass boilers, but am finding it difficult to source reasonably priced pellets (SE England) and to find a small enough boiler to fit my utility room. Then I've got to convince my hubby why we don't want to go for the cheapest option! Wink

Hi Sorne,

Yes, biomass boilers and pellets are a bit of a chicken and egg situation. I believe that there is supplier in Brighton but that may be too far from you in Surrey. Have you tried talking to any of the EST accrediated suppliers to see if there are pellets closer to you or has your research been web based at the moment?

Am i right in thinking that Surrey is one of our most heavily wooded counties?
I seems a shame if we can't utilise this resource through managed coppicing and pellet manufacture.
