Any thoughts?

Thanks, Admin ,
I have contacted IFE to ask them when the new CIGS solar panels are likely to be in production.
It seems that they may be up and running in Germany before South Africa, as SA has not yet identified a manufacturing site.
Anyway, Germany is much closer
I'll let you know what they say.

Nice one Anna- Marie...
I guess because the German Market is so far advanced compared to ours that they will focus on this potential first.
The installers my my system said that Sanyo were bring out a 230watt panel later this year. With 16 panels this would have given me a kwpeak of 3680 watt (or 3.68kwp) Still IMHO and after being amazed at the outputs from my system I am sure that this technology is here to stay. As it becomes improved and cheaper with time there is really no excuse not to see it on hundreds of thousands of our roofs.
Look forward to developments

Well Paul,
It seems that after 30 years, the manufacturers have finally decided that solar power is here to stay!!
I wonder what made them suddenly look at improvements?

Buy now or wait? This looks like it could well be the start of PV installations becoming more popular. That said it now puts me on hold as I am currently looking to do a 3.5KWp PV system on my home in Shropshire. The question from me is do I wait for the new panels now or just go ahead and install now?
Any help advice appreciated

Hi Bentley,
Never an easy one deciding when to install a new techonolgy. A 3.5kwp will give you more than enough energy, if you use it wisely. If PV becomes more effcient i doubt if you would want more capacity. Ok the panels may be smaller but once they are on the roof who cares?
In time the technology will improve, the price will come down and so will the grants. If you can kit yourself out now and satisfy all your energy requirement then why wait? ( you'll also inspire others to do the same)
Best of luck and let us know how you are getting on... got any quotes yet? You should expect to pay 9k ish

javascript:emoticon(' ') Thanks for the response i think you are right go for it now. we are just having the roof updated to ensure it is sound for the panels.
Who would you reccomend as a supplier of the panels and installation. So many choices out there and so many prices!!!!
Thanks
