Rainwater Harvest

I live in the South East and it hasn't rained for ages. We are still on a hose pipe ban and we may be looking at stand pipes if it doesn't rain in the spring. We had a water meter fitted about 5 years ago.

Should everyone be forced to go onto a meter?
Has anyone thought about or installed a rainwater harvest system?

Hi Admin,
I live in West Wales, and I think we have had your share of the rain this winter Sad
I am due to move house, soon, and will be considering rainwater harvesting, together with re-cycling "grey" water.
I will let you know what I come up with, although it may take me a year or so to get there! Wink
Have you tried looking at the Google Ads underneath this post? Anything there that's any good?
I'm only asking because I don't have the time to look for myself!! Embarassed

Excellent Anna-marie Take your time!
We have 4 water butts they are ample for watering the veg and plants and we do occasionally flush the toilet with this water. We looked at a proper harvest system but they seemed too expensive and difficult to fit around our house's config, so our water butts will have to do for now!

Please let us know how you get on

Thank you, Paul, I will let you know how I get on.
You are right when you say that rainwater harvesting systems are expensive!! Rolling Eyes
I am hoping that the price (of both them and solar PV) will have dropped a little by the time I am ready to have them installed.
Well, there's no harm in hoping, is there? Wink

So it's... look out for a south facing roof with one large drain pipe!
That should narrow the houses down on the estate agents books!! Wink

Perhaps. Having worked as an electrical eng in London last year, I have been told that the biggest threat to supply is the antiquated water system which is quite literally like a sieve at this stage.

By placing everyone on a meter, you could possibly measure the water lost to the system and force the water companies to fix up the transmission system. Its a serious investment and they will not do it unless they are at a point where the costs cannot be passed on to end users.
